Year 4's Victorian School Day - 3rd February 2015

The children all enjoyed our Victorian Day. We had an extremely quiet morning. I think having a cane had something to do with it! We did the Three R's in the morning. The handwriting was very challenging!

They all sat in rows to do their work. The boys sat separately to the girls just like in Victorian times.

They all had to stand every time a teacher came into the room.
A few people made mistakes and had to wear the Dunces hat. Oh no!

If that wasn't enough Mrs Murray came in to do a hand inspection. Cover those ink blots quick! She's got her cane too!

Luckily we all survived. No rapped knuckles yet !!!!!!!!

Then it was time for drill we all enjoyed that.

Next it was class photo time outside our very own Victorian school. We weren't allowed to smile! They didn't back then.

                                     But we certainly do today!

After a lunch of dry bread and a lump of cheese (only joking) we all did a sewing lesson. It was only the girls that used to do cross stitch in the Victorian times but we let the boys join in too.

After all this concentrating we needed a game and what better than a game of Hopscotch.

                                          We all loved it!

It was nearly time to go home but a few children spoke Welsh during the day and they had to wear the Welsh Knot around their necks. Welsh was definitely not allowed in schools in Victorian times.

The bad news is, that the last person wearing the Welsh Knot was given the dreaded CANE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh no ! Who will it be?

Is that William? We can't believe it.
It's okay Mums and Dads, Mrs Edwards was only pretending.
                                       William didn't even cry!

We all had a great time and we learnt a lot about Victorian schooldays.
We'd like to thank all our Mums and Dads for helping with our outfits .
We all took part and I think you'll agree we looked fantastic.
