Yr 4 The Human Body - Guest Lecturers

The Human Body

We have had a fantastic start to our new topic "The Human Body", with a series of guest lecturers from various Mums and Dads, teaching us about the body from their own medical fields.

A massive "Thank You" for all the parents that have come in and those who are coming in, for helping out with our topic.

Class 3 Summer Term Letter

Dear Parents,

The final term is already underway and a long hot summer is looming (we can but hope). The children have returned keen and I’m looking forward to a productive end to the year.

The class novel this term is ‘How to Train Your Dragon’ by Cressida Cowell and again, I have encouraged the children to purchase or borrow a copy of the book so they can read along in class. If you are unable to locate a copy, I have 5 copies of the book available to sell for the cost price of £3 (first come, first served). In English we will be further concentrating on improving the children’s drafting and redrafting skills plus writing newspaper reports, historical reports and myths and legends. In Maths we will focus on mental arithmetic strategies, problem solving, column based strategies for addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, plus perimeter and area.

Our first topic of the Summer Term is ‘Castles and Dragons’. This project has a history focusand teaches children about aspects of the middle ages of Welsh history between 1063 and 1283, a period that is generally known as Medieval Times. Later in the term, our topic will change to ‘Children of the Revolution’. This project also has a history focus and teaches children about the Victorian era including the lives of the rich and poor and other significant social and moral changes of the 19th century. An educational visit for ‘Castles and Dragons’ has been booked for Wednesday 21st May. We will be visiting Cardiff Castle to participate in a ‘Castles and Courts’ workshop. A letter with further details will be sent out early next week.

In Welsh lessons the pupils will be reading a book called ‘Gwyliau Yn Sbaen’ (Holiday in Spain) and studying further vocabulary and sentence structures relating to beach holidays. Our R.E. work is currently about ‘The Christian Church’ and how it is characterised by its ministry and the sacraments. After half-term we will learn about how individuals’ beliefs and faith affect their everyday lives.

P.E. will still take place on Mondays and Wednesdays. We will be outdoors for both of these lessons whenever possible; playing cricket on Mondays and doing athletics on Wednesdays. I would be grateful if you could ensure that your child has the appropriate kit on these days. If you have any questions about these matters, or any others, please contact me at the school and I will be happy to discuss them further.

Yours sincerely,

Mr A John

Class 3's Busy Week!

This week we have been planning where to build a castle, describing dragons and finding and creating symmetry.

Here are a few photos of us at work this week:
